I apologize for the lack of updates in the recent years. In November 2011 my pituitary was destroyed, a CFS/ME complication exacerbated by severe acute stress intentionally caused by other people. I am now finally getting treatment for all my hormone deficiencies (not just most of them), so hopefully in due course I will be as good as new. In the meanwhile I have had three new books published in Finland: another medical textbook about treatment of autoimmune diseases, and two new novels (after my debut), of which one is about CFS/ME. And in March my debut play Marian ilmestykset, based on my debut novel, premiered in Finland. I believe the first CFS/ME-themed play in the world? A video recording with English subtitles remains a possibility.
The CFS/ME articles I wrote for the Suite101 magazine, which were linked on the Articles page, are no longer available online. I am hoping to relocate most or all of them under this site and/or my personal website in the coming months.
Reviving the Broken Marionette: Treatments for CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia, is of course still available and still getting rave reviews.

Reviving the Broken Marionette author Maija Haavisto had her debut novel published in Finland. Marian ilmestyskirja is a story of otherness, disability and chronic illness. There is an info page about the book in English, as well. Her new medical textbook will be out in November, sadly only in Finnish as well. It is about controversial or otherwise poorly known chronic conditions from mold illnesses to gluten sensitivity. Any information about locating international publishers for these books is much appreciated!
There are also some new updates to the book.

Maija Haavisto wrote a report of the Birmingham LDN conference where she was a speaker. Her speech should be online on YouTube in the near future. The Finnish version of Reviving the Broken Marionette was recently reviewed in a Finnish medical journal. More information about this can be found on the new Reviews page.
28th September 2010
Maija Haavisto will also be a speaker at the Birmingham LDN conference on the 23rd of October. The new Finnish version of Reviving the Broken Marionette, published a few months ago, has been well received and she is planning to start working on another medical textbook (unfortunately only in Finnish) at the end of the year. There are also some updates to the content of Reviving the Broken Marionette.
14th May 2010

Unfortunately there are some bad news about Ampligen, but luckily there are some good news too. You again have a chance to win one of two electronic copies of the book in a holiday contest. Also, the new Finnish version of Reviving the Broken Marionette will be published by Finn Lectura in 2010, about three years after the original version. The original Finnish book was only about CFS/ME treatments, but the new book will feature fibromyalgia treatments as well, just like the English one.

The author of the book, Maija Haavisto, is now working for the online magazine Suite101. She will be writing about a variety of topics including food, travel and books, but at least half of the articles will be about medicine, most of them related to CFS/ME and fibromyalgia. You can get an RSS feed of her articles.
There are also some bad news: it is now official that the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has been discontinued. This was the only medical journal focusing on CFS/ME. This is a real blow to CFS/ME research.
